Great for a quick trip to the mountains or a nice place to relax after a visit to Mt Evans. There are some great trails here that lead back into the wilderness. The trail to Chicago lake has some awesome scenery. Start by the lake and head down the trail, about 3 miles in (moderate hike that's suitable for older children) you hit the Idaho Springs reservoir which is beautiful. From there you can keep going on to Chicago lake. The trail continues on to multiple other lakes and the summit of Mt Evans.

This place is super pretty and the lake with the snow capped mountains in the background is gorgeous! I found two trails here, one that is very easy and leads up through the forest to the lodge, and the other which leads down to Chicago Lakes which is a bit more difficult. The Chicago Lakes trail is pretty rocky and fairly exposed but gives you a good workout that's not too hard on the knees. Parking can get a little tricky around midday on weekends but I'd love to get back up here and explore more trails!

Beautiful and small Colorado park. Easy access off of I-70 up the mountain, fairly good parking at the two lots near the lake and lodge, as well as on the side of the road between the lots and lodge. Very easy flat hiking around the lake... harder hiking up to Chicago Lake. Great place to take visitors who want the CO experience but would get winded hiking anything that isn't flat. Clear lake water, usually some kind of water fowl around as well. Lodge also has a little store and restaurant.

This is a great place to pick up souvenirs. They sell delicious made from scratch pies and have a great menu in the restaurant. I suggest stopping for lunch and get a window seat for the views, or have a beer at the bar. It also has a beautiful view of echo lake.

Best mountain lake on the drive to the top. It's so placid and clear you can see the reflection off of it like a painting. It has a nice walking path around it as well. Wonderful to just walk and reflect and imagine what it would have been like as a indigenous person to have first happened upon the place before there were any other human disturbances.
